Helena 1st December 2015

Dear All, Some of you may already know that my father passed away on Thursday 26th November 2015 at 1130. I cannot thank you enough for the warm words and wishes we have received. They have helped us all. None of us expected Thursday to be the day he would draw his last breath. I think we all believed that his enormous spirit would keep him going and that death wouldn’t catch him. The truth is, he was very sick and his last moment was incredibly quick and he wouldn’t have been aware. They were about to perform a procedure to ease his breathing, they were prepping him and he said ‘let’s get on with it’, in his jovial way and in that moment he slipped into unconsciousness and was gone. It was mercifully quick and the kind of death he would have been happy about, no struggling. The void he leaves in our lives is indescribable. He was such a friend and mentor to me and my sisters and our sole inspiration. He taught us perseverance, tenacity and most of all hard work. He taught us that no one will come knocking on your door to hand you success, you have to go out and make it yourself. We grew up at his knee watching him do exactly that and we are so proud to be his children. It will take a little while for us all to rally and come to terms with him no longer being the larger than life physical presence in our worlds. Thank God he is out of pain and can breath easy again. I would ask you all to hold him in your memories with fondness and raise a glass to a giant of a man, who touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His legacy will live on in all of us and in the companies he built. Dad, thank you for everything, may you rest in peace. Michael, Jane, Louise, Yvonne and Helena
